Estate Planning

Estate Planning is the process of planning for the future and ensuring that your wishes are communicated to those who will be making decisions for you. Estate Planning includes appointing someone to handle medical needs and financial matters for you as well as deciding who you want your assets and possessions to go to after you pass away.

J Barry uses his knowledge as an elder law attorney to make sure his clients have the necessary legal documents that they will need as life changes occur. We never know when something can happen to us, which will change our ability to be able to make decisions, pay bills or manage day-to-day activities. We encourage our clients to think through this process, as this can be one of the most important decisions they make. We spend time discussing who they would want to act on their behalf if they were no longer able to do so. We also educate the person they appoint to this role to understand what their duties and responsibilities are and how they are to follow the wishes of the client, not what they would choose for themselves. Our comprehensive estate planning includes legal documents such as a Financial Power of Attorney, Health Care Power of Attorney, Living Will, HIPAA release and a Last Will and Testament.  Additionally, some clients choose to create a Trust as part of their estate planning.

It is important to review these documents every few years due to changes in the law as well as life changes, e.g. marriage, death, divorce and births, and changes to your assets.

Each client's situation is unique. Therefore, we believe in creating customized solutions.
